53rd State Delegate Race: Christopher Merola Has Greater Name Identification than 33-year Bureaucrat Jim Scott
Falls Church - Republican candidate, Christopher Merola, held a press conference in McLean, VA, last night, Thursday, October 29, 2009, at the Dranesville Republican Headquarters from 6:00 pm to 6:30 pm.
In his press conference, Christopher Merola showed the results of a recent poll his campaign conducted that showed he has greater name identification than his opponent, 33-year bureaucrat, Jim Scott.

Results of the poll and the Five Reasons Why Jim Scott is Out of Touch with His Constituents can be found on the Merola 09 web site at: http://www.merola09.com/53rd-district/53rd-district-poll/
Candidate Merola, the Republican, has been routinely criticized by his opponent, Democrat Jim Scott, for not originally being from Northern Virginia, even though Jim Scott himself is not from Northern Virginia either.
Merola said, "I find it remarkable that after 33 years in two public offices, Jim Scott's name identification among his constituents is only 26.7%. My name identification is 32.3%."
Merola and his wife have lived in Northern Virginia for six years and have been involved in the political process since the year 2000, when Christopher Merola helped then candidate Melissa Hart become the first and only Republican woman elected to Congress in Pennsylvania history.
Merola, an Army veteran, was hired by Hart to be her Military/Veterans liaison. He also served as the Field Representative for Lawrence County in the Pennsylvania's 4th Congressional District.
It was this position that allowed Merola to spearhead the I-376 Corridor transportation project.
Merola went on to say, "Normally, a 32.3% name identification is not something exciting. However, when your opponnent is a 33-year bureaucrat like Jim Scott, who has a 26.7% name identification, it means he is so out of touch with his constituency that hardly anyone knows who he is."
Merola concluded, "Maybe, that explains why Jim Scott has refused to add content to two of his web site pages for the entire year -- including his issues page."
The two will square off for the election of the State House in the 53rd District this Tuesday, November 3, 2009.

Jim Scott Makes False Charges About Christopher Merola's Web Site; Candidate Merola Demands An Apology from Scott
Falls Church - During their debate last night at the "Meet the 53rd District Virginia House of Delegates Candidates’ Forum" in Falls Church, VA, Democrat incumbent and current Delegate, Jim Scott, accused Republican Christopher Merola of posting inflammatory advertisements on his campaign web site.
Merola responded with shock and outrage to Scott's accusation several times and demanded an apology from Delegate Scott for making, as Merola put it: "...absolutely false and ridiculous charges."
Merola instructed the audience to view his campaign web site and see that: "... no advertisments of any kind have ever appeared on my campaign web site."
In fact, several members of the audience searched Merola's campaign web site with their Blackberry devices and found no advertisements of any kind. At one point, Merola held up an audience members Blackberry and showed the audience that no advertisements existed on his campaign web site.
Scott did make the apology after Merola demanded he do so.
The debate was sponsored by the League of Women Voters of Falls Church and League of Women Voters of the Fairfax Area. Both Scott and Merola squared off once before on October 6 in a debate in McLean.
Christopher Merola stated that Scott's false accusations were proof of his being out of touch with his constituents. He said, "Jim Scott has had two empty pages on his web site for all of 2009 -- including his issues page."
Merola also said, "Jim Scott stated in the October 6 debate that he agreed with me and Governor Kaine that he would not raise taxes during a recession, but has already called for an increase in the gas tax just this fall."
Merola went on to say, "Just last year Jim Scott voted for several tax increases including taxes on motor vehicles, as well as occupancy tax increases and a sales tax increase. This was all in the middle of a recession."
Merola concluded, "Jim Scott may have forgotten how he has voted, but I will never forget my votes when I am in Richmond."
No other debates between the two candidates have been scheduled.
